She died three days ago in a car crash. I just found out today. I don’t know what to think.

The first time I met Rachael, she was laughing at Mary Beth behind the counter at Mitchell’s Ice Cream. She had fainted an hour before I arrived and our manager was trying to convince her to go home….

Portland is a funny place.

Cyclists are way less considerate of pedestrians than drivers.

People don’t age here. Meaning I always assume people are my age and then learn they have grandchildren. Or something like that.

So far, it has been the most glorious fall I have ever encountered. Blue skies, 40’s, yellow leaves for two months straight. People warn me about how grim it is going to get. I just tell them I’m from Cleveland.

In athens there was one place to eat for each mood. Casa, O’Betty’s, Salaam, Jackie O’s, Purple Chopsticks. Even though I now have dozens of options for each mood, I can’t seem to find any one that is on par with the fare in Athens.

You can order a whiskey with a beer back and it is perfect. Whiskey with a mini glass of beer.

Traffic lights are signals. And “spendy” means expensive.

Even though I didn’t think it was possible to live in a whiter place than Athens, I really do love it here. It is vibrant, exciting and inspiring.

Plus, the rumor is true: grunge lives on.
